This production of The Lost World, based on the novel by Arthur Conan Doyle, was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1975, and amongst the cast are Francis de Wolff, Gerald Harper, Carol Boyd and the renowned radio actor Carleton Hobbs.
The story follows a 19th century expedition to enter the rumoured lair of animals thought to have died out millions of years before - a terrifying world of pterodactyls and other 'prehistoric monsters'.

Die Geschichte von der "verlorenen Welt" dürfte neben den Sherlock Holmes Krimis zu den bekanntesten Werken des britsichen Autoren Sir Arthur Conan Doyle gehören. Sein Ansinnen war es damals eine "Geschichte für Jungs" zu schreiben und mit diesem Buch hat er das Ziel mehr als erreicht. Der Stoff wurde bereits mehrfach verfilmt, mal hat man sich dichter an den Roman gehalten, mal war man sehr frei in der Interpretation.
Dieses Hörspiel der BBC hält sich sehr dicht an die literarische Vorlage, ist aber im Vergleich zu so mancher deutschen Produktion etwas einfacher inszeniert worden. Das liegt natürlich auch am Alter des Hörspiels und wer "Old School" Inszenierungen mag, ist hier goldrichtig. Die Sprecher sind bis zur kleinsten Nebenrolle sehr gut besetzt und zu verstehen. Wer Spaß an dem Stoff hat und wen die englische Sprache nicht stört, kann bedenkenlos zugreifen.
